Venter denies targeting Malema at funeral

Johannesburg – The police officer who claims EFF’s Julius Malema and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi assaulted at the funeral of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, has been accused of targeting the politicians.

Johannes Venter faced his second day of cross-examination by Malema’s lawyer in the Randburg Magstrates Court.

The pair are standing trial for allegedly assaulting Venter.

Venter denies targeting Malema and Ndlozi at the funeral.

But Malema argues that Venter didn’t scrutinise other guests at the funeral.

Venter is a member of Solidarity and assisted by minority rights group AfriForum.

Malema said this is why he stopped the EFF leaders from entering the graveyard.

Venter says he had no malicious intent.

The EFF leader is due to take the stand when the trial continues on March 9, 2021.
