
Vigilantes are believed to have murdered 11 people in Cape Town on Friday night. The Police reported that they were investigating whether the killings in Marikana were linked to seven murders on Tuesday.
Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula reported to have placed the Philippi East precinct under the command of a deputy commissioner, Major-Genral Mpumelelo, after the shooting that occurred on Friday. “Manic has vast years of experience and previously worked in Nyanga as a station commissioner. He will be supported by a team of compromising specialist detectives, intelligence, operatives and high risk units such as Tactical Response Team members, National Intervention Unit and other forces.” said the police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
The minister of police, Fikile Mbalula said he supports the appointment of Manci because of the years of experience he has had. “I am equally pleased that Manci will be supported by a team, compromising specialist detectives, intelligence operatives and high risk units.” The killings on Friday occurred in at least three locations in Marikana. The minister also stated the importance of the a non-violent community is crucial as these killings occurred in residential areas with over 60 000 residents.
Police are still investigating on the matter and finding new solid ways of protecting the Marikana residents as they plan to take matters into their hands.
