War in Ukraine: Ramaphosa defends SA stance

Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa has defended South Africa’s decision to abstain from a United Nations’ vote on the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

Pretoria has been criticised for not with other world leaders, demanding that Russia withdraw its military from Ukraine.

In his weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa said the UN resolution did not call for meaningful negotiations and engagement.

He said South Africa is firmly on the side of peace.
