WATCH: Billions pledged at Global Citizen Festival

JOHANNESBURG – A whooping R100-billion was pledged at the Global Citizen Festival in Soweto.

The funds will go to fighting extreme poverty,  better education and strengthening gains made in fighting in the many challenges facing the world.

Thousands gathered to celebrate  Nelson Mandela’s centenary.

Advocacy group Global Citizen announced 57 commitments which come to a total $7-billion (R100-billion), in support of the world’s most marginalised.

Alone Motsepe Foundation pledge R4 billion, majority of it went to land reform, the Global Fund pledged over R5-billion in South Africa over the next 30 years.
