WATCH- Emotional scenes as CCTV of Hannah Cornelius kidnapping shown in court

Cheslin Marsh laid his head on a rock and prayed as two of the men alleged to have murdered Hannah Cornelius stood above him with half-bricks in their hands.

The “crime” he was guilty to punish him, was for giving them the wrong ATM pin for bank cards they stole from him.

Marsh frequently broke down in tears in the Cape Town High Court on Thursday‚ just as he did on Wednesday‚ forcing the court to adjourn.

The four suspects attacked them in the early hours on Friday May 27‚ 2017‚ in Stellenbosch, he said he closed his eyes and prayed. The accused, Vernon Witbooi‚ Geraldo Parsons and Eben van Niekerk put Marsh in the boot of Cornelius’s blue VW CitiGolf.

According to Marsh, the suspects drove them to Kraaifontein where they bought tik. They drove off again before eventually stopping and opened the boot of the car.

Marsh and Cornelius were Stellenbosch university students, Marsh was forced to give them his bank cards, when they demanded for the pin, they told him he had given them the wrong pins.

“I lay down on the ground and put my head on a rock. I closed my eyes and I prayed‚” Marsh said on Thursday‚ struggling to retain his composure.

“The two men were standing with a half-brick in their hands. I then lost consciousness.”

When he eventually regained consciousness, he was in horrible pain, bloodied and in shock he tried to look for help in the Kraaifontein area and was chased by a dog. Residents eventually called the police, he was taken to hospital and treated for head wounds and a broken arm.

Weeks after being treated in Tygerberg and Paarl hospitals he was eventually declared permanently deaf in his left ear.

CCTV footage shown in court, shows Cornelius dropping Marsh at his apartment, they are then attacked by the robbers.  Cornelius was murdered during the robbery and kidnapping ordeal.

The trial continues.
