
JOHANNESBURG- The highly popular This Is America by artist Childish Gambino’s has now a Nigerian version titled This Is Nigeria.
This Is Nigeria is almost the same as the American version, which now has over 200 million views on YouTube, in the way it was shot and the song’s beat.
Gambino’s video speaks of the lived experience of black Americans, while This Is Nigeria speaks to the larger Nigerian population of different classes, backgrounds and religions.
Falz is the artist behind the song, the 27-year-old Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, is a rapper, actor, and songwriter based in the West African country.
His song contains obvious experiences to the Nigerian population, while other messages contain coded messages about living in Nigeria. Falz takes a swipe at the government and their promises to revive the crippling economy, and eradicating corruption.
Falz then makes a bold statement when he appears with girl dancers dressed as the Chibok girls,the girls were abducted by terror group Boko Haram in 2014.
The song is highly political, Falz tackles classism, religion, crime, addiction, youth unemployment, obsessions with money and fame and is surrounding by scenes depicting each issue.
The video has gone viral and currently has over 1.5 million views.
