WATCH: ‘Polite’ robbers strip couple of R1.2m in Rolex watches and jewellery

BOKSBURG- A group of “polite” robbers dragged a Boksburg couple from their vehicle at gunpoint, stole their two of their Rolex watches, a 5-carat diamond wedding ring and a diamond tennis bracelet, all valued at an estimated R1.2m.

According to the couple’s son, who spoke on anonymity said the robbers were “very polite” and even asked his mother to “please take off” her watch.

The son told News24 that the incident happened on Saturday at 17:48, outside the gate of the Helderwyk Estate, opposite Carnival City. He also said that he is sure that his parents were being watched, his parents are aged 57 and 58 and they spent their day at Design Quarter in Fourways.

He said, “They didn’t take my mom’s handbag. They didn’t take cash or my dad’s wallet. They didn’t take anything else. They only took the watches and jewellery and they ran off with that,”

“How did he know about her ring? They must have been watched before,” the son said.

He also added that his parents were left traumatized and that his mother intends on selling everything she owns, “She wants to sell everything. Today she just put the house on the market. She said she doesn’t want anything anymore. She’s selling her cars, she’s selling everything. She’s just very traumatised at the moment. She says, when you look into the barrel of a gun, it’s really not fun.”
