
MOSCOW- Saudi Arabia’s official football team plane caught fire in mid-air as they traveled to their next World Cup match on Wednesday.
The team lost 5-0 in their first game against host nation Russia on Thursday and were traveling to Rosostov in preparation for their second Group A fixture against Uruguay on Wednesday when the incident happened.
Traveling in Russian Airlines Airbus, one of the plane’s engine could be seen shooting flames and the Green Falcons football association said, “The Saudi Football Federation wishes to reassure everyone about the safety of all members of the mission of the national team after a minor technical malfunction in an engine.
“The plane landed a few minutes ago at Rostov on Don Airport, and UNOMIG personnel are now safely heading to their residence.”
Video’s of the incident circulated online and on Twitter showing fire shooting from the planes underneath.
