WATCH: Technical glitches leave social grant recipients out in the cold

Frustrated social grant recipients have been forced to wait in long queues this week, after technical glitches meant they were unable to access their cash.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) assured those who experienced problems with electronic payments that they would be paid in full within the next few days. The post office which took over from Cash Payment Services (CPS) has also apologised to the beneficiaries.

Sassa said the delay in payments was due to technical glitches, before the new service’s were due out, the Post Office assured beneficiaries that there would be no glitches but this was not a reality.1

“We apologise to the nation. If there is any glitch, we won’t hide it away,” acting Sassa CEO Abraham Mahlangu said, adding that the agency was “dealing with situation fairly aggressively”.
