‘WE CAN’T CONTINUE TO BURY OFFICERS’- BHEKI CELE

NGCOBO- Bheki Cele first appearance as the new police minister was to attend the Memorial service of the police officers and a former soldier killed in the Ngcobo massacre. He shared his thoughts, “We cannot continue to bury police officers. What about their children?”

The police minister was a former National Commissioner of the South African Police Service until October 2011, so this position is familiar waters for him.

Cele is well known for being robust, hard talker and not afraid to say what is on his mind.

Cele spoke on Tuesday at the Memorial service held for six officers killed in Ngcobo.

The memorial service was highly emotive, as it was held at the local Methodist church with thousands of community members attending the service, including friends and families.

Cele spoke during the service and said, “The Bible says a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye. Police must be like that, but within the law.”
