CAPE TOWN – A group of dedicated firefighters on Thursday night joined forces to battle a huge fire that raged out of control in the Oudekraal area.
The fire which was fanned by strong winds ravaged everything from vegetation to small organisms living in the area.
It is not clear what caused the fire but authorities have confirmed that firefighters successfully managed to contain it before causing more damage.
“The fire was very huge and very hard to put off because of strong winds but our firefighters did everything in their power to stop it,” a senior official said.
According to City of Cape Town officials, the fire was too strong that guests and staff members at the Twelve Apostles Hotel had to be evacuated.
“We could not take any chances for our guests and staff, the fire was very scary and the smoke was blowing towards the hotel forcing us to evacuate everyone in the hotel,” a senior hotel staff member said.
It is reported all guests in the hotel were taken by shuttle to Llandudno were they spent the night.
City of Cape Town officials also said the evacuation was just a precautionary measure and no one has been hurt or affected by the smoke.
