Johannesburg – Ronwen Williams says Teboho Mokoena has an opportunity to fill the void left by former Supersport United captain Dean Furman.
Furman’sdeparture means that Williams will take up the skipper’s armband when football resumes.
The Supersport United goalkeeper feels South Africa under 23 international Mokoena can fill Furman’s shoes.
Williams said: “It is not going to be easy for us to replace Dean it’s going to be a huge gap for us to fill so I think at this moment if you look at our team we have (Teboho) Mokoena, his preferable position is to be a defensive midfielder.
“At the academy and at the SA U23 side he plays more of a holding midfielder role and I know personally he wants to play this position so these six games that we are left with now will be an opportunity for him to show the coach and the board that he can do it so this is a big opportunity for him.
“And it comes with responsibility so hopefully for his sake and for the team’s sake I just hope that he can fill those shoes and be even better.”
