“You’re useless and we all hate you”, Bonang tells Nathi Mthethwa

Bonang Matheba’s tweet that South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, is “useless and we all hate you” has set social media abuzz, and many seem to agree with her sentiments.

The ministry’s declaration that it plans to spend R22 million on a statue called “flag project” has sparked controversy. The department plans to erect the 120-metre flag at the Freedom Park Heritage site in Pretoria as a symbol of unity and democracy.

Yesterday media personality Bonang Matheba reacted to the news of the project on social media.

“You’re useless and we all hate you @NathiMthethwaSA,” wrote Matheba.

“You have no clue what you’re doing. Go away! @NathiMthethwa,” she wrote in another tweet.

Justified his decision, claiming that the flag project was not wasteful and was required by his department. The flag initiative, he says it also symbolized a rupture from colonialism and apartheid.

“One of the mandates of this department is to transform the heritage landscape among others, build museums, build monuments,” said Mthethwa.

“It carries and epitomizes democratic values.”

Bonang responded to the Minister’s utterances by saying “Fire this man. Please”.
