HARARE- Zimbabwe is seeking to return to the Commonwealth, as leaders are gathered at the summit in London.
Former president Robert Mugabe pulled his country out of the 53 nation group 15 years ago, as he called the Commonwealth an evil organisation.
The United Kingdom strongly supports Zimbabwe’s intention to return, as they would benefit economically and politically being supported by small nations groups.
Mugabe frequently criticized Britain and the British retaliated, accusing his presidency of stealing elections and the seizing of white farms as illegal.
The Commonwealth is pleased with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s promise to compensate farmers of their lost properties.
Mnangagwa is also talking about inviting the Commonwealth, European Union and United Nations observers to oversee presidential and parliamentary elections that are expected this year.
