Johannesburg – The SA Zionist Church wants to be compensated for revenue lost due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Durban Zionist Bishop Bheki Ngcobo had previously said that allowing the sale of alcohol, reopening of schools but keeping churches closed was an insult to churches and religion. Ngcobo has thanked the national government for announcing that religious gatherings would be allowed under Level 3 lockdown restrictions.
“It is the first time, for us, as churches to be called essential by government. All the essential services were part of the compensation.
“As a church, we’ve lost a lot. Buildings are closed, the church cars are also in arrears all these things now need to be paid. You can’t ignore your payment.”
He has also asked churches that can accommodate larger volumes of people while social distancing be allowed to do so.
