Zuma to be recalled after refusing to resign, sources say

CAPE TOWN- Several media reports are reporting that the ANC has come to decision to recall president Jacob Zuma after he refused to resign.

The ANC NEC meeting on Monday lasted several hours, as reports surfaced after 3am that they had come to a compromise to recall Zuma.

This brings the stand of between ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa and Jacob Zuma to an end, that has been dragging on for over a week, but reports are still reporting that Zuma still has been asked to step down by the NEC.

Ramaphosa said about the meeting on Sunday at the Mandela centenary celebration in Cape Town, “As the leadership of the African National Congress, we are currently engaged in discussions around the transition to a new administration and specifically to resolve the issues of the position of the President of the Republic,” he said.

“The successful resolution of this matter has significant consequences for the country and for the African National Congress.”

Ramaphosa didn’t provide any detail on the discussions he had with Zuma. However, he said it was important that these discussions were managed with “care and purpose”.

According to the ANC constitution, the NEC now has mandate to remove its public office bearers.
