Tonse and PF/Pamodzi Alliance Unite Ahead of 2026 Election

The Tonse Alliance under the leadership of Brian Mundubile and the PF/Pamodzi Alliance linked to Makebi Zulu have officially confirmed a political merger ahead of Zambia’s August 13, 2026 general elections.

The announcement was made during a joint media briefing held yesterday after weeks of consultations and growing public pressure for opposition parties to form a united front.

Addressing the media, Mr. Mundubile said the time had come for opposition leaders to put aside differences and work together in response to the country’s economic and political situation.

He explained that ordinary citizens, including traders, transport operators, students, youths and members of the clergy, had consistently urged opposition parties to join forces ahead of the elections.

Mr. Mundubile noted that negotiations between the two political camps had been progressing for some time and emphasized that the agreement represented a collective decision by all leaders involved.

“This unity goes beyond individuals. It is a coming together of leaders and supporters with one common purpose, and from today we move forward as one alliance,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Makebi Zulu described the merger as a major step towards strengthening national unity and providing a new direction for the country.

Before speaking to supporters, Mr. Zulu requested a moment of silence in remembrance of former President Edgar Lungu, whom he credited for inspiring unity among opposition members.

He further accused the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) government of failing to adequately address governance and economic challenges affecting citizens.

Mr. Zulu added that the newly united alliance would field joint candidates in various constituencies to avoid splitting opposition votes during the 2026 elections.

The merged opposition movement will now operate under the name **Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance**, with leaders confirming that all future campaigns, mobilisation programmes and political activities will be conducted together.
