Lawyer and former presidential spokesperson Dickson Jere has officially announced his intention to contest the Lusaka Central parliamentary seat under the United Party for National Development (UPND) in the upcoming August general elections.
Jere said his decision follows consultations with various stakeholders, including family members, clergy, youths, women, and senior citizens, who encouraged him to stand.
He noted that his strong personal and professional ties to Lusaka Central influenced his decision, stating that most of his life is centred in the constituency.
“This decision was made in light of the fact that 98% of my life is spent in Lusaka Central. I want to be the ever-present MP. I work, live, worship, play, school, shop and eat in Lusaka Central,” Jere said.
He added that he aims to be an accessible and active representative, distancing himself from what he described as absentee leadership.
Meanwhile, Jere pledged full support for President Hakainde Hichilema, stating that the Head of State deserves another term due to his development agenda and efforts toward economic transformation.
The Lusaka Central seat is currently held by Mulambo Haimbe, who won the constituency in the 2021 general elections after defeating former Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe.
Lusaka Central Constituency includes the Central Business District and surrounding areas, making it one of the country’s most politically significant urban seats.
